Step into the Albanian countryside and experience traditional cooking in a beautiful farm setting at Bujtina Portokallja in Levan, near Fier. This hands-on experience combines authentic Albanian food, local hospitality, and the simple pleasures of farm life. Your experience begins with a short welcome and introduction to the farm. You will be greeted with a small traditional refreshment while learning about the ingredients and dishes that are part of Albania’s culinary heritage. Before cooking begins, guests will take a short walk through the garden and farm area. Depending on the season, you will pick fresh herbs, vegetables, or other ingredients that will be used in the dishes prepared during the class. This farm-to-table moment is a special part of the experience and offers a glimpse into rural Albanian life. Next, the cooking class begins. Guided step-by-step, you will prepare several traditional Albanian dishes using fresh local ingredients. Guests will learn how to make Byrek, Albania’s famous savory pie, prepare Kulac, a traditional bread served with slow-cooked chicken, and create Sheqerpare, a classic Albanian dessert soaked in sweet syrup. During the class, you will learn about the stories and traditions behind each dish, as well as simple techniques that make Albanian home cooking unique and approachable. While the food cooks, you will enjoy a selection of traditional appetizers and local specialties. The experience also includes a tasting of Albanian wine and raki, giving you the opportunity to discover the flavors of local vineyards and distilleries. Once everything is ready, everyone sits down together to enjoy the meal they prepared. The experience ends with a relaxed shared lunch or dinner in the warm and welcoming atmosphere of the farm. This experience is designed to be social, authentic, and interactive — a perfect way to discover Albanian culture through food, local ingredients, and countryside hospitality.
